• IV and Injection Therapy

High doses of essential vitamins, minerals and amino acids, in a tailored combination for the
condition being treated, is injected slowly into the veins. As the nutrients are being injected
straight into the vein, rather than taken orally, it bypasses the digestive system, allowing the
nutrients to be utilized immediately. Higher doses of these nutrients can therefore be used
without irritating the digestive system, and due to the high concentration gradient, these
nutrients are being pushed into the cells to be used for many processes in the body, especially
energy production.

IV therapy can be beneficial for:

 Increasing energy
 Decreasing stress
 Improving sleep
 Sport recovery
 Speeding tissue healing
 Preventing colds and flu
 Balancing hormones
 Improving the digestive system

What’s in the bag?

A base of saline or sterile water mixed with B vitamins, high dose vitamin C, several minerals and possibly amino acids. Depending on what reason you are coming in, your IV can be tailored to help with a variety of conditions.

How long does an appointment take?

250 mL bags take approximately 40-60 minutes and 100 mL bags take approximately 20-40 minutes so you may want to bring a book!

What sorts of conditions is it good for?

IV therapy can be beneficial for a wide variety of patients because it can be adjusted to meet your particular needs. The most common reasons are for stress, fatigue, sleep, tissue healing such as after injury or surgery, boosting the immune system, malabsorption conditions in which the patient is not getting enough nutrients in their diets (e.g. Celiac, Crohn’s, Colitis), hormone balancing, and mood balancing.

Why would I do this instead of eating healthy or supplementing?

IV therapy is a faster, more available way to get nutrients to the tissues. Since the solution is going into the veins, we avoid the digestive system and detoxification processes in the liver, allowing the vitamins and minerals to be immediately available. Since we are avoiding the digestive system, we can also dose much higher without having any intestinal irritation, which is especially helpful in those with non-optimal digestive systems.

How many times do I need to come in order to see results?

This can be quite variable. Some people come in before cold and flu season 1-2 times to help build up their immune system, or help heal tissues after surgery/injury. Generally, it is suggested to do once/week for 4-6 weeks, but we are constantly reassessing depending on progress being made.

Are there any side effects?

As we are injecting the solution into you veins, there can be risks. Most common is discomfort and bruising at the site of injection. There is a possibility that the solution can go out of the vein into the surrounding tissue, which is extremely irritating, but goes away quickly. There is very small risk of anaphylaxis, infection, or fainting(depending on how well you do with needles).

I’m on medication, can I still do IV therapy?

Yes, discuss with your Naturopathic Doctor before undergoing IV therapy to ensure it is safe for you.

I have a pre-existing condition, could I still benefit from this?

Yes, but please tell your ND if you have any pre-existing kidney, liver, or heart conditions, as well a condition called Glucose-6-Phosphate Deficiency.
