Pool therapy, also known as aquatic therapy or hydrotherapy, refers to movement and exercise therapy delivered in water.
One of the many benefits of pool therapy is that being in water greatly reduces the effects of gravity. This allows people with painful conditions to be able to unload painful or injured joints, thereby reducing or even eliminating the discomfort of activity. It can allow people with severe pain to move freely and exercise muscles and joints that may be too painful to move in normal conditions. Pool therapy can promote more movement leading to increased circulation, strength, endurance, all of which can greatly accelerate the healing process. It can also promote relaxation, leading to a lasting decrease in pain and sensitivity.
Many people with painful conditions find pool therapy to be very enjoyable and liberating. Even if you are not a confident swimmer, we can ensure your safety and comfort by providing flotation devices and/or working in shallow water. All of our pool therapy sessions are led by a trained professional who can complete a thorough assessment to ensure pool therapy is appropriate and safe for you.
